Pelaw View Community Centre
TYPE OF SCHEME: Refurbishment of existing disused community centre.
Family support hub for the local community with sports, leisure and educational facilities.

The Pelaw View Centre is a community-based facility which we were asked to spatially redesign and update.
The Café which dominates the main foyer area was designed to be the hub of the centre, allowing good family supervision into the newly fitted IT suite and sports areas, with a teaching kitchen providing food and beverages. The centre required updating in terms of visual environment, with tired and warn finishes and equipment and areas not fit for use. New fire prevention measures, mechanical & electrical upgrades and toilet facilities were included. Some areas were repurposed to provide office space to community policing and housing office teams.
The scheme includes:
- Open plan Foyer area and Café with bespoke servery counter and new furniture & lighting.
- Dedicated teaching kitchen, extended into unused space, with commercial benches and equipment upgrades.
- Refurbished IT suite with bespoke lockable desk units for security when not in use.
- A sports area screened from the circulation areas with graphic enhanced folding partitioning, new floor finishes and colour scheme to work with the exposed pine structure of the original building.
- New offices and interview rooms, with staff breakout and meeting spaces.
